Know who Edmonia Lewis is.

See Edmonia Lewis in March/April issue of Women’s Review of Books.
In January 2011, the Elizabeth Taber Library has begun subscribing to the Women’s Review of Books. Happily we found a connection in it to our recent “History is Herstory, Too!” showcase display as mystery woman #14. One of Edmonia Lewis’ world famous sculptures is on the cover of the March/April issue. And a two page article inside highlights a new biography of her: Child of Fire: Mary Edmonia Lewis and the Problem of Art History’s Black and Indian Subject.
A further connection came when our children’s librarian, Rosemary Grey, reported she saw Edmonia’s sculpture featured in a previous Museum of Fine Arts Boston exhibit and that the work was beautiful. We are finding Edmonia Lewis, as a woman, not so obscure after all. Please visit our reading nook where the current issue of Women’s Review of Books is on the coffee table.
