Michelle spoke to a crowd of men, woman and children of all ages and body types on what to incorporate into their wardrobes this Spring. This list is in no particular order:

Neon (no you can’t recycle your Ocean Pacific stuff left over from the 80′s)

Little Jackets

Colored Pants (even floral and prints!)

Sundresses

Sunnies (sun glasses)

Ballet Flats

Nautical inspirations

Cute clutches (she shared an adorable one from J. Crew that was pink and woven)

Michelle also took a few moments to tell us about her blog, Pink Champagne, a platform she uses to showcase fashion, interiors and lifestyle. The blog is a celebration of all things beautiful and colorful – I think you will like it!

A newly launched project for Michelle is a collaboration with other fashion bloggers that she met while attending an industry event in NYC. This is a fashion blogging throwdown, each week, six fabulous bloggers (three up north, three down south) will select one of their favorite Spring trends and style an outfit.

Week 1: Black & White, you can see more of Michelle’s looks in her North vs. South kick off post and then those of the other women participating:

Today at the Elizabeth Taber Library we held a class on using your Kindle to download library books from the SAILS network onto your Kindle device. Several questions and interesting points came out of the class and I want to share and recap as much as possible.

Kindle is owned by Amazon; the arrangement between borrowing library books and reading them on a Kindle device took a few years of negotiating.

Your Elizabeth Taber Library card gives you access to the SAILS network, when you download a book onto your Kindle, it is not coming from the Elizabeth Taber Library, but the SAILS network.

The Elizabeth Taber Library has multiple Kindle’s and eReaders with a very large collection of titles that are for use by our patrons. If you don’t see a title that you want to read available for the Kindle through SAILS, please contact Judith Klevin and ask her if it is possible to borrow a device with the book on it.

Access the SAILS network to download books at: http://sails.lib.overdrive.com or http://sailsinc.org/

You will need your Elizabeth Taber Library card number and PIN and have already set up your Amazon account and registered your Kindle device.

A Kindle device could include: a Kindle or a free Kindle App

This video will give you the steps to download the books:

I have also found how you can search the catalog for Kindle only books:

Or watch this video:

In 1992, five friends in their twenties joined forces to buy and fix up a 40-foot ketch that was wrecked during Hurricane Bob. The goal? Leave their everyday lives behind and sail her around the world as equal partners.

Their adventure spanned two and a half years, 30,000 ocean miles, and three oceans. Milestones included passing through the Panama Canal, making landfall on five different continents, rounding the Cape of Good Hope, and tying the circumnavigation “knot” in Grenada.

This account by crewmember Tim Sperry takes readers along for the ride, from the early days of messy fiberglass repairs and choppy Atlantic sailing to temporary jobs in New Zealand to the final sprint for home from Bermuda. He spares no detail in recounting all of the weather, gear mishaps, and mood swings experienced at sea and all of the cultures, landscapes, and new friends encountered on land.

Stone, on the publication of his latest book, Waltzes with Giants, The Twilight Journey of the North Atlantic Right Whale which is a selection of the Children’s Book-of-the-Month Club!

Waltzes with Giants, The Twilight Journey of the North Atlantic Right Whale (Science/Nature) is a moving portrait of one of earth’s largest endangered mammals. Mystical and provocative, it is inspired by a real North Atlantic right whale (Eubalaena glacialis) and her threatened migrations from Atlantic Canada, to her calving grounds off the coasts of Georgia and Florida.

Praise for Waltzes with Giants (Skyhorse, September 2012)

“I am just blown away by Peter C. Stone’s Waltzes with Giants. He has captured the story all so well, so tragically, so beautifully…”
- Amy Knowlton
North Atlantic Right Whale Research Scientist, New England Aquarium

“In Waltzes with Giants, Peter C. Stone uses the capacity of human imagination, the power of poetic language, and the tactile beauty of paint to convey the heartbreaking story of the North Atlantic right whale. It vividly beckons us to learn through the heart as well as the mind.”
Assistant Professor of Art Education, Rhode Island College

Briefly, Lauren grew up outside Boston and graduated of B.U., where she studied journalism before moving to NewYork. She shared a Pulitzer Prize with her colleagues at Newsday newspaper for coverage of the TWA Flight 800 crash off the shores of Long Island in 1996, and numerous other awards for her social journalism, including the Anna Quindlen Award for Excellence in Journalism for her work on stories about Children and Families. Because of this connection, we are fortunate to have had Anna Quindlen write a foreword for this book.

As a non-smoker, Lauren was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004 at the age of 36. For three years she battled the disease, several rounds of cancer treatment, the removal of a lung, and from October 2006 until her death in May 2007, she wrote a weekly column in Newsday, titled, Life, with Cancer. In it, she shared her experiences with cancer, the treatment, the higher incidence of the disease in women, the research being done, personal reflections, as well as the stigma associated with the disease.

“Life, with Cancer – the Lauren Terrazzano Story” / October 2, 2012 / ISBN 0757316638
