Lazarus World Voyage | Tim SperryThe Elizabeth Taber Library congratulates local author Tim Sperry on his new book, Lazarus World Voyage.

In 1992, five friends in their twenties joined forces to buy and fix up a 40-foot ketch that was wrecked during Hurricane Bob. The goal? Leave their everyday lives behind and sail her around the world as equal partners.

Their adventure spanned two and a half years, 30,000 ocean miles, and three oceans. Milestones included passing through the Panama Canal, making landfall on five different continents, rounding the Cape of Good Hope, and tying the circumnavigation “knot” in Grenada.

This account by crewmember Tim Sperry takes readers along for the ride, from the early days of messy fiberglass repairs and choppy Atlantic sailing to temporary jobs in New Zealand to the final sprint for home from Bermuda. He spares no detail in recounting all of the weather, gear mishaps, and mood swings experienced at sea and all of the cultures, landscapes, and new friends encountered on land.
