I wanted to bring to your attention a new book that I co-authored with Massachusetts resident Frank Terrazzano. “Life, with Cancer – the Lauren Terrazzano Story” is a biography about his daughter, a remarkable woman and social journalist.
Briefly, Lauren grew up outside Boston and graduated of B.U., where she studied journalism before moving to NewYork. She shared a Pulitzer Prize with her colleagues at Newsday newspaper for coverage of the TWA Flight 800 crash off the shores of Long Island in 1996, and numerous other awards for her social journalism, including the Anna Quindlen Award for Excellence in Journalism for her work on stories about Children and Families. Because of this connection, we are fortunate to have had Anna Quindlen write a foreword for this book.
As a non-smoker, Lauren was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2004 at the age of 36. For three years she battled the disease, several rounds of cancer treatment, the removal of a lung, and from October 2006 until her death in May 2007, she wrote a weekly column in Newsday, titled, Life, with Cancer. In it, she shared her experiences with cancer, the treatment, the higher incidence of the disease in women, the research being done, personal reflections, as well as the stigma associated with the disease.
